We were approached to assist in the redevelopment of Ward End Park House a derelict listed building close to Birmingham city centre. Our role was to explore sustainable initiatives with the local community, a council and other interested parties.
The objective was to present a case for transfer of ownership to a community lead organisation.
The challenge was to create a case that met the aspirations of the local community and interested groups and at the same time, convenience the council that the success of the venture was best served under the ownership of an external entity.
A major part of the project was to contribute to a business plan, including financial projections, that showed clear viability within a short space of time based on clearly defined revenue streams.
We initially undertook consultation meetings amongst representatives of the local community, existing support organisations and potential future partners. We also undertook extensive research into the demographics of the local community and wider Birmingham.
Based on this initial research, we also identified other initial potential partnerships and future relationship. We also considered other various development activities related to the building, including identifying future revenue opportunities.
Finally, we contributed to the final submitted business plan which was forwarded to Birmingham City Council.
Currently, the final decision has not yet been approved. There are, however, works underway that would lead to the final completion of the proposed project.
